Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted over at Wishful Endings to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about but haven’t yet read. Most of the time they’re books that have yet to be released, but not always. It’s based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme, which was originally hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
This week my Can’t-Wait-For Book is Hush Little Hauntings by Marie Croke!

Model Home meets Delicate Condition in this hauntingly original gothic horror about a mysterious midwife tasked with delivering hauntings who must uncover the truth behind her newest patient’s uncanny birth before it tears her world apart.
Within Midhouse, a secluded manor deep in the woods, midwife Halie has a strange calling: overseeing the births of hauntings. Each arrives as an uncanny miniature—perfect replicas of places steeped in pain and unresolved wrongs. And once nestled within Midhouse’s walls, they reach ghostly fingers back into the world, seeking justice and retribution.
When Midhouse’s newest patient, Isabelle, arrives, Halie expects a routine birth, but the house-child is fragile, incomplete in a way she’s never seen. Halie suspects Isabelle is hiding a dangerous secret. Then strange men arrive at her door—and Midhouse changes.
Corridors lengthen, rooms disappear, and Midhouse itself becomes hostile. To survive, Halie must uncover the truth behind Isabelle’s arrival before she’s lost in a haunting of her own
It’s not complicated: I simply ADORE the idea of a midwife-of-hauntings. A haunted house where other haunted houses are born! BABY HAUNTINGS. Sorry-not-sorry, that is adorable and delightful – and the idea of taking something sweet like that and making horror out of it? Is fascinating.
(Now, if any of you know of stories where we get baby chicken-leg houses, like Baba Yaga’s? DO LET ME KNOW. I’ve been searching for them for YEARS.)
This is out the day after my birthday next year, which means it is a present for me specifically and must be great. Them’s the rules.
